friday

Picks for Saturday and Sunday follow Friday’s picks on this page.

The L.A. Law (A&E, 8am and 2pm) reruns on A&E have cycled back to the beginning. Part 1 of the pilot episode airs today.

Patrick MacNee plays an old British Agent who thinks he’s Sherlock Holmes on Magnum, P.I. (A&E, 10am & 4pm).

Phil Hartman’s death was sortof written into NewsRadio (A&E, 11:30am and 5:30pm), the emotional (yet still funny) “Bill Moves On” episode airs today.

Delenn is interrogated (but there’s more to it than that) in the “Comes The Inquisitor” episode of Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed).

The season finale of Diagnosis: Murder (CBS, 7pm) is titled “Blair Nurse Project,” make of that what you will.

Syd tries to deny her feelings for a married man on Providence (NBC, 7pm).

No Nash for you tonight, CBS has the Miss Universe Pageant (CBS, 8pm). Like you care.

If you thought The Lone Gunmen (FOX, 8pm) was a fairly straightforward comedy adventure show, well . . . you’d be right (more or less). But in tonight’s season finale, they attempt to kick off the show’s own “mythology” (oh-oh) when we learn more about Yves (maybe). The real reason to watch? Michael McKean reprises his X-Files role of Morris Fletcher. And David Duchovny makes an appearance as Fox Mulder (the ads kept trying to be sneaky about it, but I figured y’all would want to know– if you hadn’t already heard or figured it out).

Wingspan (ABC, 8pm) is a two-hour look at the band Wings. Contains interviews, band footage, the usual.

The always quirky Popular (WB, 8pm) has a new episode called “You Don’t Tug On Superman’s Cape . . . “

Richard “Johnboy” Thomas gets to play a serial killer on the season finale of Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 9pm). Karen Allen also guest stars. Munch better be in this episode (he was absent last week, darnit).

Alfre Woodard reprises her character from St. Elsewhere on Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm).

Heath Ledger, Lewis Black on The Late Show w/ David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Run-DMC and Everlast on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Juliette Lewis, Peter Boyle on Late Night w/ Conan (NBC, 11:35pm).

This weekend TV Land celebrates 5 years on the air! So their marathon this weekend isn’t of any show in particular, but of great episodes of great shows. Visit the TV Land website for all the particulars. (And for some cool interviews and stuff you can only see on the web).

If you like Bogie and director John Huston, you’re in luck: Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall in Key Largo (TCM, 7am). Humphrey Bogart & Katherine Hepburn in The African Queen (AMC, 11:30am).

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Sci-Fi, 8am) does Track of the Moonbeast.

The “And Baby Makes Three” episode of The Adventures of Brisco County, Junior (TNT, 1pm).

The War of the Worlds (AMC, 7:30pm).

Good Eats (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm). “Fry Hard II: The Chicken”

Part 1 of a 2 part episode of The District (CBS, 9pm). Jean Smart guest stars.

Cindy Margolis and Bob Newhart guest star on a new Mad TV (FOX, 10pm).

Catch up with the episodes of Once and Again (Lifetime, 10pm) that you missed the first time around. This is the one where Miles Drentell offers Rick the big opportunity . . .

Lara Flynn Boyle hosts Saturday Night Live (NBC, check your local listings). With musical guest Bon Jovi.

New episodes of Black Scorpion (Sci-Fi, 11pm) and The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne (Sci-Fi, midnight).

Wiseguy (Court TV, 1am-4am).

Sunday, May 13, 2001

Cary Grant, Peter Lorre are great in the all-too-funny Frank Capra film Arsenic and Old Lace (TCM, 7am).

Cary Grant and Irene Dunne are fabulous in My Favorite Wife (AMC, 10:30am).

Alton Brown shows us three different ways to cook fish in the “Hook, Line, and Dinner” episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 5:30pm).

Xena finds herself empress of Rome (!?) somehow on a new episode of Xena, Warrior Princess (syndicated, check your local listings; WGN, 6pm).

There are lots and lots of Lucy Lius on the season finale of Futurama (FOX, 6pm).

Bobby pretends he’s very very sick to try and get No Doubt to play at his prom on the season finale of King of the Hill (FOX, 6:30pm).

Homer starts a daycare (oh-oh) on The Simpsons (FOX, 7pm).

Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman are Indiscreet (AMC, 7pm; 12:30am).

New Nero Wolfe (A&E, 7pm and 11pm), part 1 of 2.

Hal accidently derails a train that’s carrying toxic waste (!) on Malcolm in the Middle (FOX, 7:30pm).

Billy Miles (or whatever it is that looks like Billy now) is wreaking havoc in the first part of the two-part season finale of The X-Files (FOX, 8pm). Annabeth Gish returns as Agent Reyes. Frances Fisher guest stars. And Krycek is in the house (so to speak), as well. I predict: a big cliffhanger leading up to next week’s finale.

New Sopranos (HBO, 8pm).

Poppy Montgomery stars in Blonde (CBS, 8pm). Based on Joyce Carol Oates book about Marilyn Monroe. Part 1 of 2.

Christy must choose between two suitors in Christy: Choices of the Heart (PAX, 8pm). It’s new and it’s also part 1 of 2.

Saturday Night Live Mother’s Day Special (NBC, 8pm). Current SNL castmembers are joined by their Moms. They introduce the best clips from this year or something.

Season finale of The Practice (ABC, 9pm).

Part 2 (of 4) of Further Tales of the City (Showtime, 9pm).

Chad Lowe, Margot Kidder, and B.D. Wong guest star in one of the creepiest episodes of Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit (USA, 10pm) you’ll ever see.

Wiseguy (Court TV, 1am).
