wednesday
TV Land’s daily schedule changed this week. Roc (TV Land, 9:30am weekdays) is back on the schedule (after being around for a while during Black History Month). Get Smart (TV Land, 4pm and 4:30pm; 9:30pm and 1am) now airs four times a day (two different episodes each day).
This week marks the 45th anniversary of As The World Turns (CBS, check your local listings). I’m happy to report that the show is pretty great these days, if you don’t believe me, the 25 Emmy nominations it received recently should say it all.
This week’s Guiding Light (CBS, check your local listings) has me on the edge of my seat, as Edmund tries to pull off a coup (literally) and Danny & Michelle fight for their lives (yet again) and that of their newborn baby.
A wealthy, much-hated practical-joker leaves Magnum 50 million dollars (and a butler played by Roscoe Lee Browne) (or does he?) on Magnum, P.I. (A&E, 4pm).
Investigators review the senior staff on Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed).
PBS has picked up the rights for American High (PBS, check your local listings), that great documentary that follows a group of high schoolers that aired briefly on FOX last year. From Academy Award-nominated filmmaker R.J. Cutler. PBS will air all the episodes (including some that never aired on FOX).
Ed (NBC, 7pm) represents his high school girlfriend after she’s in trouble for hiring a sexy woman to test her husband (who she suspects of cheating on her). Carol tries to get back funding for the school’s music program. It’s a new episode. Anne Meara guest stars. (Note that in Minneapolis the show is preempted– wah!– and won’t air until Noon on Saturday on KARE-11/NBC).
Final two episodes of Eco-Challenge (USA, 7pm and 8pm).
Toby finds out the the President has M.S. on a new episode of The West Wing (NBC, 8pm). (Preempted in Minneapolis– argh!– for a Timberwolves game. Will air on Saturday at 1pm on KARE-11/NBC).
Jack & Jill (WB, 8pm) continue making plans for their wedding, which will presumably conclude their short season (before Felicity returns).
Alton Brown visits Cleopatra’s tomb and discusses the world’s largest cucumber (?!) in the “American Pickle” episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm).
Are robots “in” these days or is it just me? Not that I ever considered them “out” . . . they’ve always been cool. The Learning Channel has two episodes of a series called Robotica (TLC, 8pm and 9pm; 11pm and midnight). “Robot builders conceptualize and assemble high-tech robots, then compete in a dangerous obstacle course.”
New episode of The Job (ABC, 8:30pm). I’ve received a few emails from fans of this show telling me I’ve simply got to watch it, so I’ll definitely give it a try soon.
Lily continues making plans for a wedding, despite Judy’s objections. And Karen’s difficulties in relating to Jessie continue on a new Once and Again (ABC, 9pm).
The dead body of an investigator is found, and then her boss (who is a big mucky muck) is a suspect on a new Law & Order (NBC, 9pm). (Preempted in Minneapolis, will air on Saturday night after Saturday Night Live on KARE-11/NBC).
Series premiere of That’s My Bush! (Comedy Central, 9:30pm; midnight).
“The Documentary” episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm) is pretty darn cool. The detectives watch a documentary that Brodie (Max Perlich) has made about them. Sortof. Lots of lines are lifted directly from David Simon’s book (upon which the show was based). Some think that this episode is a good introduction for folks who are new to the show. Directed by Barbara Kopple, written by Eric Overmyer. Melvin Van Peebles guest stars. Barry Levinson appears as himself in a scene that mirrors something that really happened on the set. Featuring the song “Boom Boom Boom” by the Iguanas.
D.L. Hughley on The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 10pm; 12:30am).
Paul “Pee Wee Herman” Reubens, Run DMC on The Late Show w/ David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Jada Pinkett Smith, Jason Sehorn on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
If you enjoy The Lone Gunmen at all and have never seen the “Unusual Suspects” episode of The X-Files (FX, 11pm) or haven’t seen it lately, you should really watch it. It details how the Gun Guys met each other and Agent Mulder (and Detective John Munch, too, for that matter).
D.L. Hughley, writer Anna Quindlen on Late Night w/ Conan O’Brien (NBC, check your local listings).
SCTV (NBC, check your local listings).
