thurs
TCM airs a bunch more Marion Davies’ movies today (check your local listings or the TCM website for the full list).
“New Hampshire” is the final episode (dangit) of NewsRadio (A&E, 5:30pm), though at the time it was filmed, they didn’t know if the series would be renewed or cancelled by NBC. (They were all set to take the show in a new direction– having it set in New Hampshire!– the following season. Which I think could’ve been a lot of fun . . . ).
Franklin unearths a centuries old secret, Lyta and Byron grow closer on Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed). It’s followed by another Babylon 5 movie– A Call To Arms (Sci-Fi, 7pm, letterboxed). It’s the movie that basically served as a set up for the series Crusade (which didn’t last too long, alas).
Another Thursday, another Friends (NBC, 7pm) vs. Survivor II (CBS, 7pm) battle. Whatever. If you like Survivor and are hooked on Survivor, you’re going to watch Survivor, no matter what the competition is. Of course you might try recording another show, if there’s something else on you like.
Tonight’s Friends (NBC, 7pm) is still allegedly 10 minutes longer than usual (with guest star Susan Sarandon), but the actual cool part of the deal is that it’s followed by 20-minutes of outtakes from the series. And Conan O’Brien is hosting that segment (excellent!). So while my interest in Friends may now be waning, I like enough early episodes and I like Conan enough that I’ll probably try to catch the outtakes part of the show tonight.
But mostly I’m thrilled that Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm) is back tonight. Sure, I’m fearful that no one will watch. But I’m going to watch because I’ve missed Lorelei and Rory and everyone. The Bangles guest star in tonight’s episode. Plus: Rory’s Dad is supposed to finally make an appearance one of these days, which should certainly be interesting. Make no mistake, this really is the best new show of the season (as I’ve said time and time again).
Ellen DeGeneres guest stars as a nun on Will & Grace (NBC, 8pm). And Ashton Kutcher guest stars on Just Shoot Me (NBC, 8:30pm).
Some of the C.S.I. (CBS, 8pm) folks investigate the death of a male stripper, while the rest of the gang tries to reassemble a very chopped-up skeleton.
Prue’s gotta travel back in time to save one of her sisters on Charmed (WB, 8pm). Is it me or does it seem like they travel back in time a lot to save people on this show? I mean, more than you’d expect from a non-Star Trek series.
James Cromwell returns for another ER (NBC, 9pm). And there’s a measles outbreak, too.
Teri Polo begins her stint on Sports Night (Comedy Central, 9pm and 9:30pm; tomorrow at 5pm and 5:30pm). Tonight’s episodes are “Rebecca” and “Dana and the Deep Blue Sea.” Both were written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Thomas Schlamme which should be all you need to know.
David Morse guest stars on Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm) as Bayliss’ cousin. The story is based on a real case, where a homeowner ends up shooting a foreign exchange student on his front porch. Features fine work (as usual) from Kyle Secor, Andre Braugher, and David Morse.
Keanu Reeves on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Stephanie Seymour, Nelly on The Late Show (CBS, 10:35pm).
Chris Rock and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog @ Westminster (oh-oh) on Late Night w/ Conan O’Brien (NBC, check your local listings).
James Cromwell, Wailing Souls on The Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).
SCTV (NBC, check your local listings).
