weekend

Two classic episodes of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 5pm and 5:30pm): “Six Southern Gentlemen of Tennesee” and “Sally”.

The “End Game” episode of Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed) is just what it sounds like.

It’s safe to assume that every episode of a network show is new, given that this is the beginning of February sweeps.

James Cagney, Henry Fonda, and Jack Lemmon in Mister Roberts (AMC, 7pm).

Joanie prepares for her wedding on Providence (NBC, 7pm) and meets her fiance’s parents.

Diagnosis Murder (CBS, 7pm) returns to the timeslot it once inhabited a couple of years ago (yay!). And The Fugitive (CBS, 8pm) moves into C.S.I.’s old timeslot.

New episodes of Black Scorpion (Sci-Fi, 7pm and 10pm) and The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne (Sci-Fi, 9pm and midnight). And an “essential” episode (a.k.a. rerun) of Farscape (Sci-Fi, 8pm and 11pm).

Mary Cherry’s family is broke, so she takes a job in the school cafeteria on Popular (WB, 8pm).

Comedy Central airs two episodes of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 8pm and 8:30pm) that they ran a couple of weeks back. Episodes are “Dear Louise” and “The Quality of Mercy at 29,000 feet.”

A teacher is raped and murdered and the investigation reveals this teacher had one heckuva illicit past on Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 9pm).

Rachel (Wendy Moniz) is framed for murder and the way she behaves makes Nash et al wonder about her . . . but then there’s probably more to it, isn’t there? On a new Nash Bridges (CBS, 9pm). I’ve been tempted to start watching the show again this year if only to see Moniz as she’s a darn good actress.

Anthony Hopkins is interviewed on 20/20 (ABC, 9pm).

If you missed The Pretender 2001 (TNT, 9pm), here’s another chance to catch it.

“Every Mother’s Son” is a heartbreaking, classic episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm).

Jack Black, Aimee Mann on The Late Show w/ David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).

Cindy Crawford, Trent Dilfer, Green Day on The Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).

Julianne Moore on Late Night w/ Conan (NBC, check your local listings).

Saturday, February 3, 2001

This weekend’s TV Land marathon features The Brady Bunch (TV Land, 5am Saturday – 5am Monday).

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Sci-Fi, 9am) takes on Invasion of the Neptune Men.

Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn in The African Queen (AMC, 11:30am).

Five straight hours of Pinky and the Brain (Nick, Noon – 5pm) trying to take over the world. Yes!

I’m one of the few, the crazed, the people who love the film Top Secret! (Comedy Central, 2pm). Val Kilmer stars in this spoof of Elvis movies and spy movies from the Zuckers.

Captain Horatio Hornblower (TCM, 4pm).

Xena (WGN, 4pm) and some amazons are hunted in an episode directed by Renee O’Connor.

John de Lancie guest stars on Andromeda (WGN, 5pm).

New episodes of That’s Life (CBS, 7pm), Walker (CBS, 8pm) and The District (CBS, 9pm).

The debut of XFL Football on NBC (NBC, 7pm). Be afraid, be very afraid.

Rerun of the “Pantry Raid II: Cool Beans” episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 8pm and 11pm). It’s a great episode about beans (no, really!).

David Boreanaz and Sisquo guest star on Mad TV (FOX, 10pm). Just so long as Boreanaz isn’t in any sketches involving thongs.

Another airing of 100 Centre Street (A&E, 10pm).

Rebroadcast of this week’s episode of Once and Again (Lifetime, 10pm). Where Grace has some trouble dealing with Eli and Carla’s relationship.

Sunday, February 4, 2001

Another chance to catch the classic “Dear Louis” episode of Sports Night (Comedy Central, 10am).

NHL All Star Game (ABC, 1:30pm).

You better catch Weird Al Yankovic et al in UHF (WGN, 2pm) on cable since the video has been out of print for ages.

Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe in Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot (TCM, 2:30pm).

Catch all four hours of Attila (USA, 3pm)– if you dare. (Actually, it looks pretty schlocky to me, but what do I know?)

NFL Pro Bowl (ABC, 4:30pm).

Rosebud! Orson Welles in Citizen Kane (TCM, 5pm).

“Mission: Poachable” episode of Good Eats (Food Network, 5:30pm) which I missed earlier this week so I definitely must watch it. ‘Cuz Good Eats is one of my favorite shows. Whee!

The guys are sentenced to death on Planet Amazonia (oh-oh) on Futurama (FOX, 6pm).

“Siege” episode of Junkyard Wars (Learning Channel, 6pm).

100 Centre Street (A&E, 6pm). It’s the “Brother’s Keeper” episode.

Michael orders Xena (WGN, 6pm; syndicated, check your local listings) to track down Caligula.

Hank is devastated when he learned he wasn’t born in Texas on King of the Hill (FOX, 6:30pm).

“The Worst Episode Ever” is the title of this week’s Simpsons (FOX, 7pm). And Comic Book Guy is featured!

Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant in Hitchcock’s Notorious (AMC, 7pm, 12:30am).

Scott Baio guest stars on Touched By An Angel (CBS, 7pm).

Andromeda (WGN, 7pm; syndicated, check your local listings) encounters a damaged sister ship.

Cleopatra 2525 (syndicated, check your local listings) expands to an hour (since Jack of All Trades has been cancelled).

New episodes of Huntress (USA, 7pm), Cover Me (USA, 8pm), and La Femme Nikita (USA, 9pm and 11pm).

Hal quits his job on Malcolm in the Middle (FOX, 7:30pm).

Scully and Doggett learn about a case that Mulder apparently investigated, but kept secret from Scully (oh-oh) on The X-Files (FOX, 8pm).

Huey Lewis is profiled on Behind the Music (VH1, 8pm).

Brian Benben and William Hurt star in The Flamingo Rising (CBS, 8pm), a new Hallmark Hall of Fame movie.

Bobby stands trial for complicity in the murder of William Hinks on The Practice (ABC, 9pm).

New episodes of Oz (HBO, 9pm) and Queer As Folk (Showtime, 9pm).

Kristen Davis guest stars (as herself) on Grosse Pointe (WB, 9:30pm).

Rebroadcast of last week’s Law & Order:SVU (USA, 10pm). Celebrity parents are suspected of child neglect and abuse.
