monday
Things are pretty bleak in "The Hour of the Wolf" episode which opened season 4 of Babylon 5 (Sci-Fi, 6pm, letterboxed): Sheridan is lost and presumed dead, Garibaldi is also missing, and the Centauri are still making deals with the Shadows.
The new season of Antiques Roadshow (PBS, check your local listings) begins in most markets.
Ken Burns’ 10 part documentary Jazz (PBS, check your local listings) begins tonight in most markets. Some reviewers are calling it the best American documentary ever, others are giving it simply a good (not great) review. Me? I’m betting it’s really really cool and that jazz fans may quibble with how it places some artists, but that’ll be half the fun anyway.
There’s a hostage crisis (oh-oh) on a new episode of Boston Public (FOX, 7pm). Yeah, but what about Joey Slotnick’s character? Anybody else stunned when he got, um, screwed over . . . at Christmas time?
Traci Lords joins the cast on the season premiere of First Wave (Sci-Fi, 7pm, midnight).
Mysterious Ways (NBC, 7pm) returns to NBC with a new episode (though the show has been airing on PAX all season. It’s just that few people seem to remember that PAX carries original programming).
Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, and Raquel Welch star in the original Bedazzled (AMC, 7pm, letterboxed version at 11:30pm) which was directed by Stanley Donen. It’s a lot funnier than the recent remake.
Years and years ago I might’ve cared about The American Music Awards (ABC, 7pm), but I only note it’s presence on the schedule here in case anyone out there cares. And so you know that it’s bumping the ABC lineup (Gideon’s Crossing has it’s Monday-night debut next week).
CBS has new episodes of King of Queens (CBS, 7pm), Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS, 8pm), Becker (CBS, 8:30pm), and Family Law (CBS, 9pm).
Anne Heche begins her guest stint on Ally McBeal (FOX, 8pm). And Robert Downey Jr. is still around as Larry. The show’s been fun this year.
New episode of Invisible Man (Sci-Fi, 8pm, 11pm).
The British comedy Cold Feet (Bravo, 9pm) begins a run on Bravo. Don’t be afraid, don’t confuse it with the pretty-awful U.S. remake. The original is pretty funny. Helen Baxendale and John Nesbitt star. It’s about three couples.
In case you’re curious, there are no new episodes tonight of the shows on the WB and UPN. It’s still rerunsville. And Third Watch (NBC, 9pm) is a rerun, too.
Pembleton and Bayliss pursue different avenues of investigation in the Adena Watson case, Crosetti and Lewis continue work on the the Thormann shooting case in the "A Shot in the Dark" episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Court TV, 10pm). Zeljko Ivanek, Lee Tergeson, and Edie Falco guest star. This episode was directed by Bruce Paltrow. It’s another great episode.
Sarah Jessica Parker on a new Late Show w/ David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm).
Dennis Franz, Van Morrison on a new Tonight Show (NBC, 10:35pm).
Reruns of La Femme Nikita (USA, 11:30pm weekdays) cycle back to the beginning tonight. The pilot episode– “Nikita”– airs.
Julia Stiles and Goran Visnjic (Luka from ER) on a new Late Late Show (CBS, check your local listings).
